At BigScoots, we believe that managed hosting is more than just keeping servers online. It’s about taking ownership of the technical challenges that impact our customers—even when those challenges originate in the software they use.
Recently, we identified and helped lead the charge to fix a bug in WooCommerce core that was causing storefronts to randomly display blank shop pages.
The Problem: The “Ghost” Blank Shop Page
Members of the WooCommerce community and several BigScoots customers reported an issue where their shop pages would suddenly appear blank.
- Sporadic Behavior: The issue happened without warning and was difficult to reproduce on demand.
- Temporary Fixes: While clearing and resaving permalinks often brought the products back, the fix was only temporary.
- Lost Revenue: When the shop page is blank, businesses miss out on sales.
Taking Ownership of the Root Cause
Rather than simply telling customers to “flush their permalinks” every time the error occurred, our engineering team, led by Saumya Majumder (Lead Software Engineer at BigScoots), decided to dig deeper.
“We realized this wasn’t an infrastructure problem, but an issue with how WooCommerce handles rewrite rules and permalinks. Instead of waiting for an upstream fix, BigScoots took an active role in investigating the code.“

Direct Collaboration with WooCommerce
Once we identified the likely cause, we didn’t keep the solution to ourselves. We reached out to the WooCommerce engineering team to collaborate on a permanent, core-level fix.
By sharing our findings, reproduction steps, and technical analysis, we helped move the needle on two critical GitHub items:
- WooCommerce Issue #61676: The public tracking of the occasional blank shop archive page.
- WooCommerce Fix (PR) #61788: The pull request containing the code changes necessary to stop the random page failures.
The Outcome: Fixed in Version 10.5
We are proud to announce that this joint effort has resulted in a permanent fix scheduled for release in WooCommerce version 10.5.
Once your store is updated to v10.5:
- Stability: Shop pages will no longer go blank.
- Automation: There is no longer a need for manual intervention or permalink flushing.
- Ecosystem Impact: This fix benefits every WooCommerce store, not just those hosted at BigScoots.
Why This Matters
Many hosting companies treat third-party platform bugs as “not our problem.” At BigScoots, we treat them as our responsibility. By investing our engineering time into the open-source community, we ensure a more stable future for all store owners.
That is the BigScoots difference. We deliver proactive, collaborative, and human-first hosting.
