Real Engineering. Real Results.
Kitronik is a UK-based electronics and educational technology retailer that sells to customers and distributors across the world. Their store runs on WooCommerce, priced in British Pounds (GBP). Like many global eCommerce businesses, Kitronik wanted to show international visitors prices in their local currency, but continue processing all payments in GBP.
THE CHALLENGE
Kitronik faced a 2% cross-border fee on every international sale because standard WooCommerce tools settle in the visitor’s local currency. For a business with thin margins, this “tax” eroded profits and created accounting backlogs in Xero, making global sales both costly and inefficient.
THE STRATEGIC APPROACH
With no viable off-the-shelf option, BigScoots solved this problem by building a custom plugin that moves all currency logic away from the server and into the visitor’s web browser. This allows the website to remain incredibly fast while avoiding the extra 2% processing fees associated with foreign currency payments.
The result: international shoppers see prices in their local currency, but every order settles in GBP, eliminating the 2% cross-border processing fee entirely. Because all currency conversion happens in the visitor’s browser rather than on the server, the site’s performance and caching are completely unaffected. Kitronik now processes global orders more profitably, with clean accounting and no compromises on speed.

- Proactive Performance Mitigation: We continuously monitor Google Search Console field data and CWV metrics to proactively identify and immediately mitigate any potential drops in performance or organic rankings.
- Zero-Risk Deployment: All script and style optimization is tested and isolated in a staging environment and must clear a strict multi-peer QA review by senior engineers before production deployment.
Pillar 2: White-Glove Security & Managed Codebase
- Deep Security Audits: Engineers perform thorough, monthly security audits across your architecture to identify latent vulnerabilities.
- Managed Update Protocol: Every theme, plugin, or core update is strictly managed, manually triggered, and fully tested in an isolated staging environment by our team.
- Root-Cause Analysis & Protection: If an update breaks the site, we conduct a full root-cause analysis to fix the issue or notify the author, ensuring the live environment remains 100% protected.
- Guided Remediation: We provide continuous, expert technical assistance to hand-hold clients through updating affected code or recommending superior, safe alternatives.
Pillar 3: Elite Performance & Core Web Vitals
- Page-by-Page Speed Tuning: We go beyond site-wide settings, optimizing individual pages to hit strict Core Web Vitals thresholds for LCP, CLS, and INP.
- Google Search Console Monitoring: Continuous review of field data to catch any CWV regressions before they affect your organic rankings.
- TTFB Optimization: Server response time monitoring and optimization to keep your Time to First Byte well under threshold.
- Zero-Regression Updates: Every optimization is staged and QA-reviewed to ensure performance improvements never introduce instability.
Pillar 4: Strategic Support & Oversight
- Comprehensive Site Auditing: We conduct manual, monthly site audits across desktop, tablet, and mobile device types to identify and immediately fix user experience flaws and friction points.
- On-Demand Technical Guidance: Clients benefit from video technical assistance (Zoom, Slack Huddle, Meet) to guide them on anything web-related, even outside our immediate scope, acting as a true technical advisor.
- Proactive Site Health Monitoring: We continuously and proactively monitor the site for immediate performance, security, or broken code issues and take immediate, documented action to mitigate them before they impact the business.
- Page & Dashboard Management: We create and maintain pages, admin dashboards, and site sections as part of our ongoing engineering relationship, so your team is never blocked waiting for a developer.
Site Analyzer™: Your Monthly Site Intelligence Report
BigScoots Exclusive IP. Built with Extensive R&D.
Site Analyzer™ is a BigScoots-built diagnostic tool, not a white-labeled third-party scanner. It crawls your entire site and generates a detailed report covering broken assets, hidden PHP errors, redirect issues, and performance problems. Every report is reviewed by a BigScoots engineer before findings are shared with you.
- Full-Site Crawl: This proprietary tool deeply crawls every frontend webpage, subdomain, CSS file, and media asset, including images, fonts, iframes, and videos, to validate loading integrity and code dependencies.
- Error & Issue Detection: It is specifically engineered to detect fatal PHP errors (even those triggered by hidden interactions), persistent redirect loops, and broken assets throughout the application.
- Works Alongside Performance Plugins: Designed to work perfectly alongside advanced performance plugins like WP Rocket and Perfmatters, guaranteeing zero false positives or systemic failures.
- Engineer-Reviewed Reports: Every automated report undergoes a crucial manual, human QA review by our senior engineering team to purge false positives and curate a definitive, actionable report.
- Clear, Actionable Findings: Clients can utilize this intelligence to fix the issues themselves or instantly deploy their dedicated monthly engineering hours to have our team fix every detected issue.

Common Questions
Building an effective engineering partnership takes time. We need to understand your site’s architecture, establish performance baselines, and build a working rhythm with your team. The 12-month commitment also ensures you have consistent coverage through peak periods, like sales events, product launches, or enrollment cycles, when stability matters most.
No. The WordPress Maintenance & Engineering plan works at the account level, not the site level. Your contracted engineering hours cover all sites in your account.
During onboarding, we’ll discuss which sites you’d like us to prioritize based on your monthly hour allocation. From there, our engineers handle proactive maintenance and any client-raised issues across whichever sites fall within scope, no separate plans needed.
If you want broader coverage across more sites, simply increasing your monthly contracted hours gives us the bandwidth to extend that coverage further.
If you know upfront that you’ll consistently need more than 5 hours per month, reach out, and we’ll put together a custom agreement with a higher monthly allocation.
For occasional overages, additional hours beyond your monthly allocation are available (if we have available bandwidth) at $150/hour. We’ll always communicate with you before going over your included hours, so there are never any surprises.
Each month, our engineering team sends a detailed work report covering everything completed that month, including maintenance activity, Site Analyzer™ findings, and any custom development work delivered. If you want to discuss anything in more detail, you can request a consultation call at any time via Zoom, Slack Huddle, or Meet, for any technical topic, even ones outside our immediate scope.
Beyond the monthly report, our engineering team is always reachable for any questions, issues, or requests that come up between cycles.
Yes. Every change, whether it’s a plugin update, custom development work, or a performance optimization, is first implemented and thoroughly tested in an isolated staging environment. Once it passes our internal QA review, it’s sent to you for approval before anything touches production.

Improve Core Web Vitals on Your WordPress Site
Core Web Vitals are Google’s way of measuring how fast your WordPress site loads, how quickly it responds to visitors, and how stable the content is while loading. These factors matter because slow or jumpy sites frustrate users, and frustration leads to lost visitors and sales. Research shows that even a one-second delay on mobile […]
Optimize Page Speed with Speculation Rules
Even well-optimized WordPress sites hit snags when visitors jump between pages – those navigation delays add up and drag down Core Web Vitals. Speculation Rules are the latest leap forward from old-school prefetching, giving browsers smart instructions to preload or even prerender pages before users click. This means WordPress sites with heavy content and predictable […]
WordPress Performance Tuning for eCommerce Sites
Speed can make or break a WordPress site, especially for enterprise businesses and high-traffic eCommerce stores. During peak sales events like Black Friday, slow sites send frustrated customers straight to competitors, and that’s the last thing you want! Slow-loading pages result in lost revenue, lower search rankings, and a poor user experience. Mobile users are […]

If you’ve ever checked your website analytics and noticed unusual spikes in traffic, you might be dealing with bot traffic. But what is bot traffic, and why does it matter? Traffic is traffic, right? Not exactly. Simply put, bot traffic is non-human visits to your website. While some bots are helpful, like search engine bots […]
